Boojum&Snark: Proud Force of Nature Host

We were delighted to have played a part in StoneCrabs Theatre’s inspiring Force of Nature project, which ran from February to June 2025. This wonderful initiative aimed to reconnect Islanders with the raw, untamed power of the natural world through a series of engaging outdoor sessions, fostering a deep connection to our local environment.

The Force of Nature project, led by creative practitioners Rebecca Tremain and Katy Suggitt, invited participants to rediscover the simple joys of being outdoors. Sessions incorporated elements of beachcombing, drawing, sharing, meditation, and reflection, with visits to the Rare Breed Farm, stunning coast, and inspiring countryside. The project’s goal was to bring together Islanders of all ages and abilities, especially those who might find it challenging to engage with nature, encouraging them to foster a deeper connection to our environment through creative responses. Public sharing events were timed with the Spring Equinox and Summer Solstice, commemorating two vibrant seasons.

Boojum&Snark was proud to host of some of these remarkable sessions. The Bay sessions explored ideas around “Encounters at Equinox,” while the West Wight sessions led the group up to “Marking Midsummer.” All sessions were thoughtfully designed to encourage participants to increase their connectivity with nature and the landscape through a combination of walking, companionship, arts and crafts activities, and even music, song, and meditation.
“We were keen to work with B&S which has constantly championed the Sandown/Bay area and its residents. We wanted somewhere that people knew was a safe and accessible space to meet and depart from and to gather together again afterwards.”
Rebecca Tremain, Lead Artist for the Programme
After invigorating sessions held on Sandown Beach and Yaverland Bay, participants returned to Boojum & Snark to creatively document their findings, often crafting a living “museum suitcase” to display their treasures. The culmination of the project saw this suitcase, along with other crafted materials, photographs.
Friends, family, and supporters of StoneCrabs were also invited to gather back at Boojum&Snark to see a poignant short film by Island Resident and film artist Sam Lapham, alongside a micro-exhibition at Boojum. This celebratory event, showcased the incredible artistic responses inspired by our local geography and the renewed connection to nature.
We were thrilled to be part of such an inclusive and creatively inspiring initiative, helping to facilitate these enriching experiences and promoting a deeper appreciation for the natural beauty of the Isle of Wight. It is great to be recongnised by StoneCrabs as a safe and accessible base for the Bay Area sessions, serving as a vital hub for participants to start and finish their explorations.'”
