Mixed media canvas window installation by Matilda Lines

Treasure is the work of emerging Sandown-based artist Matilda Lines. It forms part of our stunning spring window installation adding colour and flair to the high street. Initially, Matilda was inspired by seventies psychedelic posters but then a curious thing happened and she found herself moved by the creative spirit of her grandmother and the positive life-affirming energy she had.
“I didn’t start out thinking this piece would be about grandmother but unintentionally Treasure began to feel like her essence. My grandmother had such an influence over me, in many ways I believe I am another version of her. She could see beauty everywhere, in washed up glass and shells which she would collect along the Sandown shoreline. This has all manifested in Treasure which has been at times an overwhelming but ultimately freeing experience. It has changed my perspective in ways I would never have imagined.” Matilda Lines – April 2022

In the centre of the piece is an all-seeing butterfly that represents Matitida. Butterflies are symbolic of change, hope and rebirth. Maybe that’s the message of Treasure, that it is a call to awaken to the world around us, as life is fleeting and beauty is everywhere.
Providing opportunities for culture and creativity is very much at the heart of Boojum&Snark. It has been a privilege working with Matilda to show this transformative piece of work, illustrating the treasure within us in the form of precious memories and the imprints left by the ones we have loved.
